Matt and Ethan's News Report

Our Week of Learning: 11/30/2009

Mrs. Starr made new class jobs and Ethan is the reporter and Matt is the photographer.
It is the reporter’s job to write down what the class did all week. It the photographer’s job to take pictures of what we do all week.

Starr Student: Taylor!

Writing: Mrs. Starr read Fairy Tale stories to the class. While she read these we had to write a story maps where we named the characters and described the problems in the story. We also wrote our own “Twisted Fairy Tales.”

Math: The class made factor trees. A factor tree is when you have a number and break it down into smaller numbers. These numbers are called factors. For example: the factors of 25 are 5, 2, 25 and 1.

We also learned about order of operations. Mrs. Starr showed us please excuse my dear aunt sally to remember the order of operations.
This is the order to solve expressions:
P stands for parenthesis. These must be done first.
E stands for exponents.
M stands for multiply.
D stands for divide. From left to right.
A stands for add.
S stands for subtract. From left to right.
