Maria And Sam's Class News Letter

Friday: On Friday we have gym and in gym we did stealing sticks again. Then we had read aloud, in read aloud Mrs. Starr reads a book called “The Graveyard Book”.  After that we have SFA (success for all). Next we have lunch and recess. Finally we have math. Same as usual, we use the first few minutes to write our procedures. Then we do our calendar. We have to find out the missing angle. At the end of the day we have writing again. We ether work on our persuasive, our procedure or our digital story telling.
Monday: On Monday we had Music. In music we practiced the songs that we are going to do for the Spring Concert. The songs that we are going to sing are: Cat Came Back, Third Base Coaches Dance and some of us are going to dance and some of us are going to sing to the Hoedown Throw-down. In writing we are doing procedures about things math related. Some choices are: Order Of Operations, Surface Area, Volume and other things too.
Tuesday: On the we have Library. On The in Library we have skills day. In skills day we went over the test that we are going to do on next Tuesday. In writing Mrs. Starr introduced the persuasive piece. Mrs. Starr showed us a persuasive called “A Request For A Dog.” We started writing a persuasive, we had to write a request for a different or the same animal. Also in math we had to continue writing our procedures for the first minutes. Then after we did The procedure we did the angles on the calendar. On the calendar we have a shape and it there shows us the 3 other degrees and we have to find out what the other degree is. Did You Know? A 4 sided shape has 360 degrees in it’s interior angles. A 4 sided shape is called a  quadrilateral. A 3 sided shape has 180 degrees in it’s interior angles. A 3 sided shape is called a triangle.
Wednesday: On Wednesday we have Library.  We also have Guidance. In guidance we started writing letters to the upcoming fifth graders. (the fourth graders). On Wednesday in Library we sign out books. Also, if you bring in your books for five weeks in a row with out forgetting any of them you get to go in the treasure boxes or discard boxes. In writing we kept on working on our procedures and our persuasive pieces. Then in math we used the beginning to write or type our procedures. Then we used the rest of the time to work on area in a rectangle. We also did an area page in our student books. We had to estimate the area in some rhombuses.
Thursday: On Thursday we have P.E. Or Gym. In P.E we played a game called Stealing Sticks. In the game the other team tries to steal the other teams sticks. Then in writing Mrs. Starr introduced a new persuasive piece that we needed to write. We needed to write a letter to our parents to persuade them to come to the state that we did for the fifty states project. In math we did the usual use the first ten or so minutes to write or type our procedures. Then we did some more of the angles.

Maria M's and Kyle's Class News Letter

Maria And Kyle’s Class News Letter

Monday: In Morning Meeting Kady and Sam put a problem on the board. Kady and Sam (the morning meeting leaders) choose Taylor to solve the problem.  In math we were learning about the Surface Area (S.A) and the Volume (V). To find the volume you need to write: V=Bh. Which means (V) Volume. (B) Area of the Base. (h) Hight. To do the rest it’s just like the order of operations. You bring down your work. For example: V=Bh bring down your work, V=(lxw)h. Example: Length: 6 in. Width: 10 in. Hight:9 in. V=(6x10)9. 6x10=60. V=60x9. 60x9=540. So the answer would be 540 cubed inches. On Monday we have music in music we have been learning about the different types of symbols in a song.

Tuesday: On Tuesday we were still working on Volume and Surface Area. To find the Surface Area you write FB (front back) SS (side side) TB (top bottom). (See example photo below) Example: FB= 3x2=6x2=12 SS= 6x2=12x2=24 TB= 6x3=18x2=36. You would multiply 3x2 because the front is 2 by 3. Then multiply 6x2 because there is two congruent sides on the rectangle. You would do the same thing with the other ones except you do the right numbers. After you’re done that you add up the numbers. In this example you add 12, 24 and 36. 12+24=36. 36+36=72. The S.A or Surface Area is 72. On Tuesdays we have library. The first Library day is studies day. We have been learning about using indexes in the world atlas.
Wednesday: On Wednesday we kept on working on our math, volume and surface area. In morning meeting the morning meeting leaders kept giving us problems to solve on the smart board. Also on Wednesday we have book day in Library. On book day we signed out books then we finished a worksheet on finding places in the whole North America. One of the places that we had find are Timbuktu.
Thursday: On Thursday we had people come and teach us about the brain. The people brought in plastic and real brains. They also brought in animal brains. Some of the animal brains were a bird, a mammal and a squirrel. On Thursday we have usually we have gym but we didn’t because the people that brought in the brains used our gym time. Instead of having gym we went outside.
Friday: On Friday we also had other people come in. They were from IBM. IBM stands for (I) international (B) building (M) material. They taught us what was inside a computer chip. After they were done that they let us try a little experiment with these plastic cups and we saw into two lights. We had to find witch one had more blue light.  Then we did a game with little cars and lights.
